whenever I try installing ATI MultiMedia Center v9.08 (or earlier,
like 9.06 or 9.03) it never finishes.

It begins by extracting the files, then setup begins, sort of.
Once setup starts, it immediately minimizes to a tab on the taskbar
(XP SP2), then the minimized tab will just disappear after a few
seconds - shutting setup down with it.

what gives?

We've been given the choice to buy an ati product, (very) good times
bad times sometimes.
don't forget about that.
What is the ati product you're writing all about ?
