New PC running this video card is unable to play mpg files or avi
using Windows Media Player (v9 or v11), WinDVD4 or 9, VLC media
player, yet other progs can . e.g. Premiere Pro and Videoredo. I need
all progs to play mpg and avi. After trying out K-Lite codecs pack and
other failed efforts, it appeared that a screen refresh rate of 85Hz
was to blame for the crt screen in use, though this on the same CRT
screen for the previous PC was never a problem, all mpg files played
on all progs.
Should a more powerful pro card have issue with Hz and mpg playback ?
Having got the mpgs running, and a backup image made, an install of
windvd4 with boxes ticked for dvd video and mpg files knocks out the
ability yet again of the others. A reinstall of the functional state
though then also sees failure, mpgs played when backup made. Now whats
going on ????
So perhaps not Hz at all. An hour later after this turnaround of
events and try the same PC state, and they are working
again,...crazy.... just what the hell is going on. Is the ATI card to
blame ?
Has anyone this card or one in the Fire GL 5000 series and what is
playback of an mpg file like on WMP or WinDVD ?
With for the moment the mpgs playing again, I just installed windvd4
again and this time left the two association boxes unticked, and
windvd can play the mpg files, and so can wmp. I tried 60HZ 75HZ and
85Hz and all work ! Until perhaps the next time !!!!. Things just
seem so fragile. Only difference between this pc and last one where
all played ok, is the video card and motherboard. same OS.
How is the ATI card or 5000 series for you, is it the card, or what is
it ?
