There is apparently a conflict between the capture capabilities of my video card and my new web cam (or any other capture device for that matter. I have a PC with XP pro SR1, 1 GB ram and an AMD 1800+ cpu. I have installed all the XP updates and new XP drivers for the 2 devices. The video card captures TV signals fine. The web cam installs, but isn't recognized when plugged into the USB port. The web cam works on a Win98se PC with a PII 233 so I know the hardware is ok.

Both tech support groups tell me to either disable or remove the other device, but haven't said how to disable only the capture capabilities of the AIW or how to re-enable it. It seems obvious that I can't disable the entire video card, but that hasn't occured to the tech support people

Is this really that difficult a thing to do under XP? If it is, then the manufacturers should warn consumers before purchase

Is this a situation where I should establish a second hardware profile? How do you switch between hardware profiles

Any help will be most appreciated

I can't be of much help on your problem but I can say as the owner of two
capture cards, a ati all-in-wonder 128 pro and a pinnacle pcitv pro cards,
that the only hope you have is getting the latest software and drivers for
everything in your system! On the other hand the ati card under xp is
working better then it ever has. I was using 98se when I got the ati and it
had problems. win2k was totally out of the question but to my supprise XP
seeme to tollerate it. Another, just video card will solve your tv problems
but you'll have no tv.

You say the webcam isn't recongnized when plugged into the usb ports? I
should be. Go into the bios and make sure your usb ports are enabled. Check
device manager for the usb drivers and then try the webcam again.

I agree with purplehaz, sounds like you're having a USB problem.

But if that isn't the case then go into your Device manager, and disable
the entry called something like ATI Theatre. I can't remember the exact
name, it's on my computer at home, and I'm at work for right now.

Setup a guard against theft and alarm system using web cam

It uses your computer and web cam to setup a guard against theft and
alarm system. When the thief is found by it, it will alarm and notice
the host by many ways, such as telephone, email.
