Is there any way to completely prevent buffering with this combo (I forget
the term - encoding, storing in circular buffer, decoding). I have no
interest in this facility, and it's just causing problems with audio echo,
audio out of sync, etc etc.

Omega drivers, with latest WDM drivers.

There, I managed to post without saying f%^*ing piece of sh$£.

If you mean the 'TV on demand' feature and want to disable it then the answer is yes.

Read knowledge base article #737-22252 at the ATI web site for details.

Thanks - nice to see that ATI have improved their online support at least.
That didn't fix the audio issues for me though, and try as I might I
couldn't get the old WDM drivers to replace the later T200 unified WDM
drivers, until I nuked the lot and used the driver CD that came with the
card. So now I'm back to MMC8.7 and that works, so it will have to do. Good
job I no longer use the machine for gaming!

If heir's any reason to use 9.13/4 with an AIW I haven't noticed it yet.
9.08 was the last to not have this "feature". If you want to use Guide+
you'll need to go back to 9.06. IIRC 6.1 was the last Cat release to not
have Unified WDM drivers. I think it's a good idea to clean up before going
backwards on versions. ati.com/install shows how. The echo may be a sound
card driver/setting problem especially if its an Audigy. Look at the MMC
release notes.

Hello.. I was having audio trouble with my AIW 9800 Pro where when the
TV was playing I was getting doubled audio. I found that I had the
cable from the audio output on the video card going to the MB and this
wasn't needed apparently. When I disconnected it, I still had audio but
the double or echo had dissapeared.

You probably have a mismatch of version files. Some people installed the
older audio files to retain the analog for console gaming. Never did it so
can't give details. Sounds like you have both versions installed now(SP&NSP
IIRC). I got the audio install wizard during one of my installs since they
went digital. Had other problems too so had to reinstall.
If your having any other problems and want to make sure you get a good clean
install look at ati.com/install
