Right now I would go with the ATI card. Both are supposed to be DX 9 cards,
but the Nvidia GPU's are not handling DX 9 code properly resulting in very
poor performance. I understand that Nvidia will soon have a new card out
that MAY solve the problem. ATI on the other hand runs MS DX 9 code very
well. So if Half Life 2 or any other DX 9 game is on your wish list, stick
with ATI for now.

I'll tell you the tale of my 9800SE. I got checkerboarding on any
drivers I could find including the original disk, ATI sites, and
Omegas. I sent it back but they told me that there was nothing wrong
with it and it must have been my fault as I was trying to use all 8
pipelines (I started with 4, then 8, getting the same checkerboarding
no matter what). I'm really in no position to argue the point but the
deal they offered me was to get another board promised to run on 8 for
a bit of extra cash. The alternative is to pay to have the original
card (which I spent weeks trying to get to work) returned so I am
giving up and getting a guaranteed 8 pipelines.

My point is that it may be worth the extra cost to find a dealer that
promises that the 8 will work.

Isn't the SE version crippled? If you're after a cheaper 9800 check out the
non-Pro version rather than the SE.

For me "SE" stands for "Slower Edition" ;-)
For example, ATI 9800SE is slower than 9800 and Nvidia MX440SE is slower
than MX440.

unless you can enable the 8 pipelines in which the case the 9800SE behaves
excactly as a 98000 non-pro
This is interesting since 9800SE AIW cards can be found vert cheap.

Just make sure you have the 256-bit versions (whom usually have more luck in
operating with 8 pipes)
