I'm confused about the names/specs of the AthlonXP processors. If you buy
an AthlonXP 2.17 (2700+) processor does that mean that it clocks at 2.17ghz
or 2.7 ghz? Where does the 2700 come in?

It is a 2.17 GHz CPU that uses AMD's XP marketing jargon which
basically means it has roughly the same performance as an Intel P4
2.7GHz.

Actually, It is a 2.17GHz CPU that uses AMD's XP marketing Jargon, which
basically means it has roughly the same performance as an old Athlon Tbird
running at 2.7GHz (if they ever made such a thing).

In other words, the XP delivers the same performance as a 2.7GHz Athlon but
at a slower clock-speed. There is no direct comparison with a Pentium IV
running at 2.7GHz intended.

I don't really think that's true. I have a 2400+, and I know it's supposed
to be about the same as a Pentium-4 2 GHz.

It is dead on true with many apps. A program that fights cancer(UD)
rates the CPU as compared to a Pee4 1.5Ghz which gets a 100. After
every WU it recalculates the CPU power of the box that just sent in
the result. A Barton 2500+ @ 3200+ gets a score around 210.
