I'm getting a 'device I/O error' when trying to access a
particular folder on my removable write protected IDE
HDD. Has anybody had a similar problem? Has anybody
solved this problem? Does any body have the latest
atapi.sys (24-Oct-2002 23:59 ver 5.1.2600.1135) from
microsoft?

many thanks

I would install Service Pack 2 which is coming out here very soon and
then see if the problem still exists. Also, do note that programs such
as Daemon Tools and Alocohol 120% lock this file. Also, you may want to
check the options you have set for the removeable hard drive in Device
Manager and Disk Management.
