atapi cdroms randomly disconnect

both my cdrw and my dvdrom randomly disconnect while in
windows. unsafe disconnect window appears and cdroms no
longer function. i can restart and they come right back.
all cables secure and operation is flawless when its
connected. any help would be appreciated. thanks
