Hi,

I'm looking for a reliable (preferably WHQL-certified) PCI card which
will let me add an extra IDE ATA133 hard disk drive or two to my system
(which only natively supports four IDE devices). I do not wish to use
RAID as I have a backup system in place and do not need any extra
read/write speed so there is no point.

I've tried Windows Catalog(ue) to no avail, so wondered if anyone here
running WinXP had any experience of cards fitting this description that
they would recommend?

The reason for my request is that I currently have such a card, apart
from the 'reliable (preferably WHQL-certified)' part! My current card
has caused more conflicts and issues than any other piece of hardware I
have ever owned!

- It caused System Restore to completely cease functioning on all drives
until I removed it from one system;
- Then it caused regular bluescreens in my next system when I attempted
put two devices on it rather than one and attempted to sustain any I/O
operations on the second device
- Then recently it caused an unknown conflict that kept killing a
digital TV PCI card (until reboot), regardless of which slots I put them
in.
- And now, although I have yet to confirm this, it looks like it's
probably going to turn out to be the culprit in breaking the data stream
coming from a new bandwidth-heavy USB 2.0 device I've just installed,
even though the device has absolutely nothing to do with the card.

So you can see why I would want to replace it!

You don't specify which card you're using. I'm using a Promise Technology Inc Ultra133TX2 IDE Controller [PC Card]. See
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/de...x?ItemID=72366 it shows the XP logo for this card.

Oops, you're right, I didn't. It's a Highpoint HPT302 ATA133 Controller
Card - so now everyone reading this will know which card to avoid

Aha, wonderful - I don't know how I managed not to find that on there
myself, I can only assume I was looking in the wrong place. Anyway, it
looks absolutely perfect, so I shall buy one immediately!
