I would like to experiment with The Optional ATA security features of ATA
drives. I would also like to experiment with The Host Protected Area of
such drives. Does anyone know of where to locate The Program Area 51 or
similar programs? Does anyone know of any utilities that allow the
manipulation of the ATA security features (passwords, security erase, etc)?

We're working on adding them to next release of our smartmon app
(http://www.santools.com/smart/unix/manual), but will only be
supporting them under the LINUX variant of the software, due to some
MSFT problems that prevent some of these commands from working under
Win2K/XP.

(They would work OK if PC booted on MSDOS, but we won't go down that
path).

Drop me a private email in a few weeks, and I'll let you know how it
is coming along, assuming you have no luck looking elsewhere.
