Does anyone know the "rule of thumb" regarding how to estimate the on die
temps using PC Probe and is it the same for AMD64's as it was for the XP's ?

PC Probe is a ballpark figure only. One review site said actual
cpu temps can be off by as much as 11'C. Without independent
measuring their is no way to know whether a specific motherboard
is reporting temps as being higher or lower than they actually are.

However, it might not be accurate, but at least it is precise.
This means that you can calibrate it by measuring with a more
accurate device. Once you know that it is off by "X" degrees,
then in the future you can just adjust whatever PC Probe tells
you by "X".

As well, you don't need to know a calibration factor in order to
be able to use PC Probe as a warning tool. If your fan/sink is
failing and temps are rising, then a 20 degree rise is a 20
degree rise - period.

AFAIK Asus Probe only reads the socket temp on XP boards, and I think it
reads the die temp on the Athlon 64s.

Try SpeedFan and compare temps?
