Asus P5K Deluxe won't wake up

I am on my 2nd PK5 deluxe board. I had to return the first one
because it would not "wake up". When I turned the computer on the
lights and fans would come on but the monitor would not get a
signal.

Now, my replacement board is doing something similar when it has been
hibernating; it won't wake up. Sometimes turning the computer off and
then back on works. Usually, I have to actually cut the power switch
off for 10 seconds before it sends a signal to the monitor and powers
back up.

For a while it was donig this and then saying that the overclock
failed, but I haven't overclocked it yet. I reset it and redid the
settings and I haven't seen that message for a few weeks. But I am
getting tired of cutting the power off to wake it up.. considering
ditching the board for an Intel if I can't get it resolved.

Is my board on the blink? Any suggestions?

You are missing something huge. The motherboard (any motherboard, not just
your specific asus board) will not do anything until it receives power_ok
signal from your power supply. If the board is hibernating, that means that
the system is actually turned off, with RAM contents stored on the hard
drive (typically) so that the system will boot to it's previous state a
little faster. But again, this points to a motherboard that is not
receiving power_ok from the power supply. If your workaround is to TURN THE
POWER SUPPLY OFF and then back on later, this again points to a power supply
that is intermittent. That is, power supply is not sending power_ok to the
motherboard without you having to prod it a bit first.

With your ORIGINAL symptom, I would have immediately replaced the power
supply, as I'm reasonably certain that that power supply is junk. I hate to
say it, but I think your original mainboard was probably OK and so is the
replacement. I'd suggest you try the following. -Dave
