Just putting together this new computer and have a question I hope someone
can answer. On a dual core processor like the AMD X2 it states that it's a
2.6GHz, is that total or for each core? I can't see where any specs are
making that very clear.

Thanks,

Doug

It's each core, but none of them reach 2.6 Ghz (yet). They range from
2.0 (3800x2) to 2.4 (4600x2 and 4800x2).

Me bad - the new (and ludicrously expensive) FX60 actually clocks at
2.6Ghz, but as far as I can tell it's still pretty much vapourware on
these shores.

2.6 for each core.

I have the x2 4400 which is 4400 on each core, excellent for overclocking BTW, currently running mine well above the
4800 speeds, very cool too. For games etc. its about the same as a 4000 cpu, but obviously if ones OCing it will be
higher.

The X2 CPUs are listed by performance rating, like the single-core models.
(The numbers are supposed to be equivalent to Intel P4 CPUs.)

3800+ 2.0 GHz, 512 kB L2 cache (each CPU)
4200+ 2.2 GHz, 512 kB
4400+ 2.2 GHz, 1 MB
4600+ 2.4 GHz, 512 kB
4800+ 2.4 GHz, 1 MB

The FX60 was announced today. It's dual core, at 2.6 GHz, with 1 MB L2 cache
(per core). It also is supposed to cost over $1000US, when it's actually for
sale. If it wasn't an FX CPU, it might have been called a 5200+.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

And my 2.2GHz X2 4400+ overclocks nicely to 2.65GHz ( both cores ) on
my A8N32-SLI. ( Zero errors Prime95, two simultaneous instances, both
cores loaded 100%, -- min. 8hr.soak tests of all three Prime95
default configurations.) YMMV of course, but most of the X2 family
seem to overclock at least 10% with zero problems.

According to the test reports, the FX-60 does not overclock too well -
presumably just a bin-selected version of a X2 4800+ with the
multiplier unlocked.

Thanks for the info. It made since that it was each core but could not find
any thing to confirm it.

Well, you have to not top post.

Apart from that you just need to install (or re-install) Windows on the
appropriate hardware .. it'll pick the right set of drivers for dual
core. Yeah verily, even XP Home will work (thanks MS!).
