Hi,
I'd like to install a 80 GB HD on a PC with a ASUS A7V133 (VIA
Apollo KT133A Chipset). I try to connect the HD on the IDE channel and
also on the promise control ... but it seems that it has been
recognized (AUTO feauture in the BIOS option) as an HD of 33 GB. I
took a look at asus website and I didn't find, in the new BIOS version
description, anything about this limit.
Can someone help me ?

There have been many Bios revisions for the A7V133 in the three years I
owned two of them.

I'm sure you have a very old revision.

The latest and I'm sure also the last one A7V133 Beta BIOS 1010.01B
supports even bigger than 137GB drives (48-bit LBA).

Use the latest flash utility Aflash V2.21, don't try to flash from
Windows but do that from a bootflop in Dos!!!!

BTW there exist hard disks that have a 32GB limitation jumper.
Did you read the drive documentation?

What BIOS you using? I am pretty sure that the latest BIOS can handle
at least 160GB units just fine.

F.N.'s question, "What BIOS you using?".
E.P.'s question,"Did you read the drive documentation?"
Other question, what's make and type of this 80GB drive?

Apart from these questions, I'm using a 80GB IBM as master on the
regular primary IDE port of my A7V133.
Currently I'm using Beta Bios 1010.01b.

The problem was the CS jumper. Now it works propely without flashing
the new BIOS.
I have another question. Windows 2000 doesn't recognize it (on the
promise controller). So I downloaded the ata100.zip file from the
website and made a driver disk with the file of the windows 2000
folder and the root (of the zip). When I use this as driver disk
during the installation of windows 2000 I got an error in a .c file of
the windows CD.
What am I missing ?

I have the 80GB disk attached to the regular VIA Primary IDE, the
Promise is used for RAID1 on my A7V133.

I don't know which website you refer to and what ata100.zip contains.
I think you need the Promise ATA100 driver for Windows 2000.

See:
ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TRE...265R/index.txt

U1xx_V200_B39.ZIP
PROMISE PDC20265R ATA100 IDE Driver v2.00.0.39 for
W9x/ME/Win2000/WinXP/WinNT4

Success, Eric
