Hi, everyone....

I have msOffice XP running on WinXP with service pack 2. I had to reinstall
stuff on my system recently and am now trying to "recreate" all the tweaks
that I had accomplished over the past few months and years.

How do I make the *windows* addressbook associate itself with the *outlook*
contacts/addressbook such that by making changes in either, these changes
are reflected in the other? It used to be that I could edit my contact list
in either the windows addressbook or in the outlook contact viewer -- it
really didn't matter which method I used to do it, because they both
referenced the same database of contacts and would therefore be "in sync"
with one another.

Hi Alessandro,

Brain provided good article on how to make Outlook use Windows Address
book. However, by using this method, you may have to select showing the
Windows address either in Outlook Express or in Outlook, but not for both.
So, also I'd like to suggest importing Windows address book into Outlook
for alternative. To do so:

1. Start up Outlook
2. Select File/Import&Export/Import Internet mail and address/
3. Select Outlook Express program, and the only check Import Address Book
option
4. Go on to finish the import process

Note: If you select this method, you have to update the Outlook address
book manually every time that you modify Windows address book, as they are
two different instances.

I followed the listed steps, but it doesn't seem to have fixed the issue.
I don't remember it being so tricky that I had to hack the registry.
Perhaps it was because in the past I was using Office 2000, whereas now I am
using Office XP, on Windows XP sp2.

Any other suggestions?

Pat,
Your suggestion is well taken, but does not address my particular needs --
Routinely, I use Outlook to enter/edit my contacts, but I like to quickly
view them in the WAB. Therefore, I need to restore the association between
the two such that they are *always* in sync.

I don't know why I can't "re-figure" out how I did it in the past..... I
should've written it down.... It was a very handy tweak, and it's a shame
that it isn't a standardized option, considering how "intuitive" it is. I'm
sure many other users would like this type of sharing configuration.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody else with some thoughts?

Okay, I was able to make this tweak work.... It required restarting (i.e.,
exiting and re-loading) Outlook and the WAB. Now things seem to work
exactly how they should.

Exactly. Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode made it easy to share the
Contacts list with Outlook Express. The Windows Address Book's Options menu
had an option to do it.

Yes, for your particular requeirment, the article provided by Brain can
addressed it well. I just want to provide more information about this
feature for your informaion.

On most scenarios, a Windows registry modification needs a system reboot to
take effect.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you have figure the issue out. If you have

Neither of your solutions solved my problem. After backing up the .pst file,
my records were wiped during a repair to my machine.

I reinstalled Outlook and copied my .pst file into the Application Data
folder for Office/Outlook.

I can see all my contacts, etc. and I can email them from the contact list,
but I CANNOT insert any contacts from a blank email. I consistently get this
message:

"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder asociated with
this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or
you do not have permission. For information on how to remove this folder from
the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help."

I have tried reloading the program and that does not work.

What can I do???
