Assigning which program to open files?

Hi all

I have a copy of Acrobat5 and a copy of Acrobat Reader6.
IE opens pdf files in Acrobat5 and I'd prefer it to open
pdf's with Acrobat Reader6. Wasn't there a section
under "Tools" that let you pick what program you wanted IE
to fire up when it encountered certain file types?

Anyway if it was there I can't find it now. Any idea about
how to make IE open pdf's with Acrobat6?

Thanks

Toney

Try This Toney:

First L-click a single instance of a .pdf file to select it> then R-click
the .pdf file while holding the shift key>select open with>then scroll down
the list to AC Reader6>select>and check the box which reads "Always use this
program to open this type of File"> OK. If the Acrobat Reader6 is not
listed, click other and then add Acrobat Reader 6.

In my experience, it's hopeless. The plugin that interfaces IE with the
Adobe software will always prefer Acrobat over the Reader unless one of
them is already open. The only way I found to make it go to the Reader
every time was to keep the Reader always open. Obviously that's not a
very satisfactory solution. I eventually solved the problem for myself by
uninstalling Acrobat and giving the software away. That probably won't do
for everyone.
