Is it possible to assign a passport to a folder, as one
can to a Word document, to prevent other people accessing
the file?

If so, how?

With WinXP Professional you can set folder / file permissions and on an NTFS
drive, encrypt data.
With WinXP Home you can set folders as Private so that only the user that
created them can access them.
