After installing the latest XP updates including .NET and IE8 I get the
following errors at startup:
Assert Failed\Projects\wtKernel\sec\Win32\cm\Core\cmCodeModule.cpp:90
m_CodeHandle != NULL

The error occurs twice at startup, each followed by 2 instances of:
ddcmigrate.exe
The application failed to initialize prpperly (0x0000003).

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying that you installed 3 different (probably tremendous)
updates and now have a problem?

Part of your first error returns search result associated with Wild
Tangent gaming software which is trying to do something when Windows
boots. Does Wild Tangent and games sound familiar?

It can be disabled by going to Start, Run and enter msconfig <enter>
in the box. Look in the Startup tab and disable (uncheck) anything to
do with Wild Tangent and reboot. You can worry about enabling it
again later. When offered, chose to ignore future msconfig warnings
on reboot.

of which indicate it is a malware infection.

What steps have you taken to investigate this problem?

No matter what kind of anti virus software you are running (hopefully
something) try this:

Download some good free scanning software, install it, update it, and
do a complete scan. Suggestions:

Malwarebytes http://malwarebytes.org/
SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/
AVG http://free.avg.com/

After those, if you still have a problem (or it resolves your problem)
please let us know.

Did you check the status of your updates on the update web site?
http://update.microsoft.com
You may try uninstall the updates and reinstall them by using the web site
or manually. You can contact the update team of Microsoft if the issue
persists after you fix anything viewable there according to any recommended
solutions. You may like to check for virus and disable third party software
by using msconfig and see whether the problem persists before you call them.

I removed WildTangent and all errors went away. I had also recently
installed HP's photo editor and WildTangent must have snuck in with it.
Since it was at about the same time as the MS upgrades, I mistakenly
associated the errors with that event.

Good job.

A quick search leads me to believe some free (HP related) photo stuff
(editors) and WildTangent are in cahoots somehow and several people do
not appreciate it and the (alleged) invasion of their privacy that
apparently comes with it. All just Internet rumors of course.

Depending on what you are trying to accomplish with your photo editing
(if it is not working anymore), there are probably lots of choices
that are less invasive.
