On Sept 16 i downloaded a recommended update
regarding .net framework. Now I have to sign in each time
and I find a new user account called ASP.Net. I do not
recall downloading this, have no idea where it came from
and would like to be able to turn on my computer and have
my desktop appear without selecting a user account as I am
the only user!

You have downloaded the .NET update at some point. Go Start | Run "control
userpasswords2" (no quotes) and click OK. Uncheck the box that says "Users
must enter a username and password..." Apply and follow the prompts. Your
system will now boot straight to the desktop as before applying this update
:-)
