Asking for old field

My report is based off a query. I tweaked the query to change the name of one
field. I have made the corresponding change in the report to that field.
There is no other place in the report that field is called for. Yet when I
open the report in print preview, I am prompted for value of that old field.
I have closed and saved and yet the same result. Please advise...

Hi, neeraj.

Open the report in Design View and then open the Sorting and Grouping dialog
window. In the "Field/Expression" column, look for the previous name of your
field. If you find it, change it to the field's new name.

If it isn't in the report, check the query. Open the query in Design View
and right-click in the upper pane (where the tables are) and select
"Properties..." on the pop-up menu. Look at the "Filter" and "Order By"
Properties for the previous name of your field. If you find it, change it to
the field's new name.

I didn't find that field there also; actually both these properties were
blank. Moreover, the query when run on its own, doesn't prompt for that
field...only the report wants it...

Then the report is hiding the previous name of the field somewhere. To find
it, use the built-in Documenter wizard to document the report, making sure
that the "Options" selected include everything but the "Permissions by Users
and Group" item, and then export the results to an Excel spreadsheet. Run
"Find" on your field's previous name. You'll find it.

Thanks, I found it that way, it was actually defined in 'sorting and
grouping' as a sort field

Good job. The next time you change field names in the query and the report
and then the report asks for the previous field name when you open it, the
first place you'll look is in the "Field/Expression" column in the Sorting
and Grouping dialog window, just like the rest of us.
