i'm thinking about buying Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2007 with BCM. but i can't
find a place on the microsoft website to ask a question i have about the
products functionality etc. Where to i ask the question (which is):
i'm thinking about buying Outlook 2007. I have the Office XP Professional
currently installed. I have several questions:
Can I buy and install just Outlook 2007 and continue using the other Office
XP products that i currently have?
Is there a limit to the file size that the pst in Outlook 2007 can have? I
ask the question because Outlook XP has become unusable on two of our
computers and I noticed that in both cases the pst file is greater than 1.9
GB. So I would buy the Outlook 2007 if that will solve the problem, but how
will i know if Outlook 2007 will solve this problem

As far as I'm aware, Outlook 2007 must use Word as the email editor and it
should be the same version to avoid problems but I think someone else can
answer this more precisely.

As far as PST size, yes Outlook 2007 can have a much larger PST size. You
would have to create a PST in Outlook 2007 and NOT bring in the PST from
2002/XP. Then you would have to move the contents of the old PST into the new
one.

If you use the existing PST fron Outlook XP, you will retain the size limit.

Of you dont have Word 2007 Outlook will use its own 'stub' of Word 2007
You will not have all the functionality you would have if you had Office
2007 components

In pre 2003 versions of Outlook you need to make use of the Archive function
in order to control the size of the pst, due to the size limitation. NB An
Archive pst has the same size limitation.
Earlier versions are also not fully Vista compatible

Hi,
I am using OL 07 but I am still using pst inherited since 97 Office.
Since OL 07 can have a much larger pst size, I thought that I should have 07
pst.
How can I restart pst for OL 07. Should I simply delete the current pst
(hoping that it would regenerate 07 pst)?

No, you create a new PST file (probably from the File menu), then copy
(drag-and-drop) all items from the old to the new one.

Let me ask you this question. The pst was evolved from Office 97 and then
Office 03.
I am wondering when Office Suite is updated, pst would be also updated too.
Am I wrong?
Anyway, how can I test whether the current pst is in OL 07or OL 03 (or OL
97) format?

Updating Outlook does nothing to change the format of existing PSTs.
Right-click the root of the PST in the Navigation Pane and choose Properties.
Click Advanced and examine the Format field. If it mentions "97-2002", then
it is an old format PST.

It did mention 97-2003 or 2007. I assume that my pst is 2007 format.

If it says only that, then it's a Unicode (Outlook 2003/2007) format PST, so
your initial claim that you're "still using pst inherited since 97 Office" is
incorrect. Somewhere along the way you switched to a Unicode PST.
