Have a movie in .asf format that I would like to convert to a format that
will play in a stand alone dvd player. Any Freeware available. I have a
cd/dvd recorder butmy "sonic now" software does not appear to do this?

Kinda depends on which formats your stand alone DVD player supports. Can
you post that info.?

TMPGenc will convert it to VCD compliant MPEG-1.
TMPGenc 12a will convert it to SVCD (or even DVD perhaps) compliant MPEG-2.
You can actually burn a DVD with MPEG-1 video.

This is good then. You can transform the .asf file to say, an SVCD
format and put it on the disc type of your choice (if the file is small
- under 700 mb - then you can get away with using a CD-R disc.)

As for the format conversion, try this one:

John, that's an ASF to AVI converter. AVI is not amongst the formats Steves
DVD-player supports.

True, but it's not very difficult to find an AVI to MPG converter. On
the other hand, it may be easier to simply use TMPGEnc.
