Hey, I'm new to the groups here so I hope this is in the right place;

I have a artec 16x DVD Rom - before I installed SP 2 it worked fine, then
about 2 months ago I installed sp 2 and yesterday I tried watching a dvd -
and the drive won't regognize the media. the drive will spin and nothing will
happen - if I try to explore the drive it comes up with please insert media
into drive...... regular music and data cd's work fine just nothing DVD

i updated the firmware for the drive and I installed the latest drivers -
but to no avail - I don't think there is anything wrong with the drive as I
have barely used it, and the dvd I tried yesterday is one that worked fine
before. Is there any generic drivers microsoft has that will work with
service pack 2 to solve this issue, or does anyone think that this could be
something else?

Any info would be great, Thank for your time.

Did you also reinstall your DVD decoding software?

Yes, my dvd Rom came with PowerDVD - and I reinstalled that, but nothing,
thanks for the quick reply.

Did you check for updates to the PowerDVD? I too have an Artec DVD 16x DVD
rom and I do not have problems with it. It could also be that the drive has
developed a "read" problem. You should check the drive by trying to get it
to work on a different PC (maybe a "friend's").

Thanks for the suggestion, I will try to get an update for the software and
see how that works, just out of curiosity; what software are you running for
your artec dvd?

I updated to the latest PowerDVD Patch - it hasn't changed the outcome, just
a note but I'm using PowerDVD XP 4.0 with the latest patch - anyone know of
any issues regarding SP 2 and this version of PowerDVD ?
