I have tried to install xp after it crashed on me two days ago. I got as far
as fdisk and format. However everytime I go ito boot from the XP disk it
never goes into Windows. It always loads what looks to be drivers then stops
it "windows Setup" Setup is starting windows. ...stops dead. It doesnt
matter if I use the cd or the boot disks.
I did get it to install some files to the c: drive then it got to the
re-booting into windows thats where it stopped again. I am about to install
Linux..because it doesnt give you such problems!! <g>
I seriously need some help. I have been to MS sites to follow their
instructions.. been to several listed here and they still dont cover the
problem I am having.

Help....

Cindy

Run a full diagnostics on your memory and your hard drive.
Could also be the HDD controller.

What makes you think that Linux doesn't have such problems?

What kind of hard drive controller do you have? ATA100, ATA133, SATA, SCSI?

What do you mean by "fdisk and format"? Do not use a Win98 floppy to prep
the drive. Let XP's built in tools do that.

Please describe your hardware and the edition of XP (Home or Pro, OEM or
retail cd).

come out clean. Have also ran several virus scanners and spyware/malware
applications before I ran reinstall.

Shenan,
Please accept my full apologies for my prior reply. I unfortunity didnt see
your actual reply just your tagline.
Frustration is definitly setting in.. Again I apologize.
I have definitly tried checking all hardware and other issues and have gone
as far as disconnecting several peices when this problem arose.

Try removing everything but the mouse, keyboard, video card, memory and hard
drive. In other words pull the sound card, nic, everything that is non
essential. Clear the BIOS while your at it. Then try installing.
Could be a hardware compatibility issue.

Use a different installation cd and/or cdrom drive.
