Fistly let me say that I would appreciate any help with the following and
also explain that tech speak may as well be another language, but here goes.

(1) I have a compaq presario r3000 intel. Since buying it the performance
has been poor, tried my local supplier, p.c. world and they said that it was
down to NORTON hogging all the space so upgraded it from 256 to 512, still v
poor, slower than a slow thing.
(2) no matter how system restore will not work, on any date in any way, it
just won't work
(3) when i try a health check on compaqs home site my internet keeps crashing
(4) every time I log on I get a systems error of the following error
loading c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\lxbt.time.dll
I would try my local p.c. world again but I am sure the staff in there can
only solve problems that cost money and even then they fit it without knowing
if it will cure a problem

Memory upgrade was the 1st step (I would max it out), all computer companies
when building a PC will install many useless utilities and have them start up
with windows, you need to run msconfig and determine which pgms realy need to
start, invest in a defrag utility i.e. perfect disk or diskeeper, download
and install CCLEANER run this first (caution do not check the "hotfix
uninstaller"). also a registry cleaner, I suggest a current version tune-up
util 2007. Disable services that eat up resources, THEMES, terminal services,
you will have to into the services
%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s to determine which ones you can disable.

unfortunately, i have never
been impressed by compaq pc's
but i am sure others have been

also, there is a likelihood that if
your pc was not zippity quick when
you first bought it, then it was likely
returned or repaired and reboxed then
resold to you as new. But i have no
facts to prove otherwise other than such
possibilities exits.

nevertheless, slow and sluggish pc's
can be the result of a number of things.

i guess one of the quickest ways to eliminate
some possibilities is to see how the
performances appears to be in safe mode.

why not take a moment or 2 or longer
to boot into safemode and fiddle around
in there for a test drive.

log in with networking and you should
be able to access the internet as well.

if it appears to be an improvement then
before you exit safemode, disable all
your startups in msconfig.

click on start, run, msconfig and go
to startup tab and just uncheck everything,
then reboot to normal mode.

let us know the results of your test drive.

Go to the symantec website and download the uninstall tool to get rid of your
norton's anti virus as it hogging all your resources on your computer.

Then install AVG (Free Edition) as it works like a charm, and it's free,
just go to search and find it listed under AVG Free Anti Virus.

Then watch your pc speed up and work great. As I was using norton's anti
virus and got rid of it. Best thing I ever did. Never ever will use that
product again!!

Go to download.com and under search in there look for tuneup utilities and
download that. A tryout for 30 days, it will help fixing those errors.

Google gives no hits on the file lxbt.time.dll. If you spelled it
correctly, then that is suspicious suggesting a possible malware infection.
Start by doing a thorough check for malware. Here are some links for that.
