Arranging by Computer takes forever

Arranging my network places by computer takes ages to
sort and display in the window, and quite often leads to
a crash.

after selecting arrange by computer the network places
folder will sit there with the folder finding torch
graphic and nothing else, it'll then either crash or
after a very long time show my network places correctly.

Is there anything I can do?
