Archiving .pst files??

Does anyone know of a method or software to archive a .pst file
without the .pst file being opened by Outlook? When I try to do this
with Mailkeeper, Outlook will only provide access for 10 minutes at a
time. Unfortunately, my .pst files are about a Gig each so even after
clicking "yes" every 10 minutes, it doesn't complete the archive of
a .pst during a working day.

Hi p3tki,

did you try the PFbackup tool by Microsoft which make a backup of your PSt
file when you close Outlook?

"How to automatically back up your personal folders file in Outlook 2000 and
Outlook 2003"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238782/en-us

PFbackup Tool:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

A tool which (I think) can backup an Outlook PST file "Live":
http://www.genie-soft.com/products/g...l/default.html

Maybe it helps.

When you say Archive, you presumably mean backup?

To DL: Not necessarily to backup. I am looking for some method less
unwieldy than having huge (1G+) .pst files of my emails. I want the
ability to search them (such as via Google Desktop), view them, and
append them to emails.

thanks,

ted

The OL Archive procedure is one that moves mail/events of a certain age to
an Archive pst.
You can create multiple Archives, you just need to remember to modify the
Archive settings. I create archives for each year, others may have different
requirements.
Outlook can have multiple data files open, a DTS will index them all,
whether open in OL or not.
If your mail contains many attachments there are third party utilities that
will strip the attachment so it is stored outside your data file, whilst the
origonal mail retains a link to the attachement (and can be reversed)
