Archiving Failure

As of the end of December, 2003, I can no longer archive
my calendar entries. I maintain one year of data in my
Personal Folders and monthly archive all data over one
year old. This has worked for me since I first set up
Office XP when it was first released. Now, it appears to
be working and the "Archiving" message appears in the
bottom right of the window, but nothing is archived. The
old data is not removed from the Calendar folder nor is
it added in the Archive Calendar folder.

Is there a limit to how much data can be maintained in
the Archive or is there another problem. This has occured
on two different machine running Office XP with the same
date of failure.

Well, the archive.pst file is subject to the 2GB size limit as are all .PST
files created by Outlook 2002 or earlier versions...but you'd probably be
getting error messages if you were running into that problem. (Check your
archive file size anyway...if it's near 2GB you should whittle it down some,
just to prevent any future problems accessing the data in it.)

Check the Modified date on the items that aren't being archived as you think
they should. That's the date Outlook uses to determine whether or not an
item is ready to be AutoArchived, and a simple action such as moving the
item to another folder can change the Modified date. More information and a
list of actions that change the Modified date can be found here:

you keep refering to this articel - but the article only deals with modification dates on mail. it is no help for calendar not being archivedd. i experience the same problem. archive runs for a few seconds but all items remain in the calendar

The article may only mention messages, but the same criteria applies to any
Outlook item, including appointments, tasks, notes, etc.
