Archiving by date

I need to reduce the nearly 5 gig size of my Outlook.pst file. A helpful
user told me I can create a rule based on 'received in a specific date span'
and move the mail (say, received before Jan 1 2008) to an *archive .pst*
folder. But I don't know how to create the Archive.pst folder so that the
mail is actually *removed* from the Outlook.pst file and reduces its size. I
don't want the archive folder just to be another ordinary mail folder, since
that will not reduce the size of Outlook.pst. Can you help?

Dick

Use Autoarchive (tools, options, other) and archive all mail older than a
certain date. It will do everything for you from creating the archive to
deleting the mail. Also, empty your deleted items and junk mail folders and
use the large message search folder to identify excessively large messages.

Thanks for your suggestion. But a problem remains: mail was imported from
Eudora in June of 2008. All "last modified dates" of imported mail were June
2008 even if the mail was from 1999. So Autoarchive doesn't seem able to
pick up the "received" rather than "last modified" date, and archives nothing
before 2008 because of the June 2008 last modified date on every message
originally imported to Outlook.

Can you figure out a way of doing the archiving that reflects this issue?
If you'd rather reply and continue exchanges outside of the Microsoft site,
my direct email is <(E-Mail Removed)>. Thanks for any further help.

Dick

Oh, that is a problem. You can either move the mail to a new pst yourself
or use an archiving utility. Look for ArchiveAssist at
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/housekeeping.asp.

You should consider archiving to HTML or other universal format so you
aren't tied to having a specific application installed to read them. This
will also allow you to move them to DVD. There are utilities on that page
that can do this as well.
