I seem to lose my calendar from prior years, meaning I can't use Outlook as a
history past recent times. How can I archive calendars and retrieve archived
calendars? Can I archive calendars by year?

Yes, you can archive by years if you move the items to a new calendar folder
yourself. Use a table view, like All a
Appointments, and sort by start date. Select them and move to the new
folder.

There are two reasons you are losing appointments: you sync with a pda and
it deletes them after a period of time or you have archiving enabled
already. If you are on an Exchange server the admin could be running Mailbox
manager from the server and deleting them after they age.
