When I attempt to install the patch to prevent further
worm viruses I receive the following error
message: "Setup is unable to verify the integrity of the
update.inf file. Make sure the cryptographic service is
running on this computer." I have already attempted to go
to the cmd prompt and shutdown and then restart the
cryptographic service. It was started successfully but I
still receive the message. Any thoughts??

Rename the folder windows\system32\catroot2 and reboot. That will
generate a new, clean folder, and you can then delete the renamed one.
Then get The patch which should now be OK.

Once that is done, get - only - Q817287 and install it, which is the
cure; you should then be able to carry on with other updates, and the
problem will not recur
