Applying User Defined Styles

My newly created 'user defined' text styles do not show up in my style list -
in short, I can create styles but cannot apply them to the text in my site.
Is there a bug in FrontPage or am I missing something?

Are you creating style sheets and applying them to pages?

Have you saved your style sheet?
Is it applied to the page?
Is the correct CSS applied to the page?
Is the coding correct?

No - I'm not using CSS. Is that the only way I can fix this?

I can create a 'user defined style,' but then I can't get at it to use it.
When I created a style in FP 2002, the new style would show up in the toolbar
in the STYLE dropdown list. This way, I could select several hunks of text
and set them to that style - and then when I wanted to change them, I could
change them all at the same time byt simply changing that style, and the
change would ripple through everything set to that style. I'm only working
with one page, for now, to get the hang of FP2003. It seems that they
removed some functionality from FP 2002 to FP 2003...?

How can I use the 'user defined styles' that I've created?

You say your only working with one page ... do you mean one page in a site
or not a site?

You have to make a site for this function to work I think.. I can't check
right now.

If you made a user defined style using FrontPage CSS features and did not
have a style sheet then it should have made them embedded I think.

I've tested this for both situations.

I've modified and existing style and created a new one under the format
menu. They are both present in the styles drop down box and are applied
correctly when used. Can you give a step by step on how you are doing this?

Hi Guy,

Here's what I did:
FORMAT>STYLE>NEW
In the NAME (SELECTOR) field, I entered "blue header"
Clicked FORMAT>FONT
Selected font, color, size
Click OK on Font menu
Click Ok on New Style menu
"blue header" shows in the style menu list
Click OK on Style menu
Then go to toolbar drop down list...and no "blue header"

Ahhh...but a whole 'nother' light comes on...does the 'space' in the name
make a difference...?

Just tried it. That was the problem. I have to select a style name with no
spaces! When I named the style "blueheader" it worked. Thanks for your
help, Guy! 'Talking' it out with you here helped to break the log jam in my
brain.
