During the past few months when I start my computer it boots up to the point
where a dialog box appears that says - applying security codes. I have found
that it can get hung up here for up to two hours. So far it eventually
continues. What do I have to do to stop this from happening. I am using
windows 2000

This is usually a result of configuration changes made when you were last
using the system. You may have something that is continuously making
configuration changes and this is why you have the issue. Try to reboot
allow the system to settle down at the desktop then go to Start | Run | OK |
cmd | cd\ | chkdsk /f | <ENTER> | y | <ENTER> | exit | <ENTER> | ctrl-esc |
u | drop-down Shutdown | restart the machine. Now after you get back to the
desktop Restart. Tell me if you still get the same message.
