Applying a name to a sheet other than that on which the name is defined

This is a question which has been asked before, but to which I haven't
been able to find an answer. In cell A8 on sheet 1 I have a formula,
and I have defined a name (Total) to refer to that cell. On the same
sheet I have references to that cell, and I can use Insert Name Apply
to change the cell references to references to the defined name.

On another sheet I have references to the same cell, i.e. =Sheet1!A8,
but if I try Insert Name Apply it comes back with an error saying
"Microsoft Office Excel cannot find any references to replace". I
can, however, type =Total into a cell and it will work, so the name
can be used from one sheet to another, but it doesn't sem to want to
apply the name to an existing formula other than on the original
sheet. I know that I can use Find and Replace to change =Sheet1!A8 to
=Total, but is there any way that I can use Insert Name Apply on a
sheet other than where the name is defined?
