How to apply permissions for files and folders in Windows XP

I have a network with a Vista Desktop, Vista Laptop (wireless) and a XP
desktop. How do I allow permission to access files and folders on the XP
desktop from the other two?

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

If the XP desktop has Windows XP Home Edition, no permission settings
are possible or necessary. Home Edition allows all network users to
access its shared folders.

By default, XP Professional works the same as XP Home Edition. If the
desktop has XP Professional and you've explicitly disabled "simple
file sharing", see this web site for how to set permissions:
