Applications slow to launch...Help!

My PC with XP Home starts up fairly fast. But when I try to double click an
application to launch it, there is always a long delay. It takes several
minutes for the application to pull up. This is particularly bothersome with
Itunes, but it does happen with other applications as well.

If anyone has any remedy suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.
