50-60 running processes
is unreasonable and is the
likely cause that is overwhelming
your cpu and your memory.
typically 20 processes would
be a reasonable average, most
of which are started by the o.s.
because they are vital, some of
which you authorize to start and
possibly a few that are running
automatically like spywares and
bots.

I used the msconfig utility and started the computer in diagnostic mode and
that made no difference. When the computer starts up in standard mode there
are between 50 - 60 processes running. When I start closing some of the
processes the applications will open. Once a couple apps are open then they
stop working again.
