Applications Will Not Install

Hi Group,

I have a freshly-formatted installation of Windows 2000 Pro SP4 running on
PIII-800 with a VIA chipset. The system has a new installation of Norton
AntiVirus 2006. I cannot get certain applications to install. The
installers all terminate with an error message that the installation file is
corrupt, or else it is missing components. I have verified that the
installation files are intact by successfully running them on other
computers. Furthermore, I have downloaded the installation files multiple
times from multiple locations. So I have pretty much eliminated the problem
being the integrity of the installation files.

The applications in question are:
1. Adobe Acrobat Reader versions 7.0.5, 7.0.6, 7.0.7 & 7.0.8.
2. RealPlayer V10 Gold.
3. QuickTime Player, various V7 releases.

Does anyone know of any possible causes of this situation, and where a
remedy might be found?

Thanks!
Bryan

You don't say whether you are turning off the AV whilst installing the
applications. Most apps recommend that you do turn off AV during the
install (as well as any other programs you have running).

Hi Sid,

At first, no. Then after experiencing the problems, I did so. Still the
installable failed.

I'm going to perform surgery on Norton AV per their web site. Plus I'll try
to install the apps in question while Norton is un-installed. But I sorta
get the feeling that the Windows Installer service is broken. Not sure,
though...

Thanks,
Bryan

sounds like a problem with the OS, not the download/installer.

Make sure the MSIEXEC has been updated. -- you can do that via windows
update.
