Windows XP Pro, SP2
Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook

I installed the following applications:

SnagIt
Poser

When I double click to start the program, the hard disk whirs, but the
application never opens up. No error, nothing it just never opens the
application.

Uninstalling/re-installing the application does nothing.

This happened with Word Perfect, too some time ago but it just stopped
opening. It wasn't after an install or update, it just stopped
working. WP tech support was useless.

I eventually had to re-install the OS and that fixed it. This happened
to Word Perfect on my partners desktop (HP Pavillion) once as well and
I had to re-install the OS to fix it.

Does anyone have any ideas why this happens? All my other applications
work fine.

Thanks
David

Download and install Process Explorer and watch what happens when you
double click. Try to run the same program from the Start menu. Try the
same thing by right-clicking and selecting "RUN AS" first as yourself
and then as "administrator". You might see something that will clarify
the situation.

It could be anything whithout knowing what the app does it is hard to
tell. Two things you need to do first is to check and see what OS is
the app supported in. If this is a old app it may not be supported in
XP. Also you need to see what are the hardware requirements make sure
the memory and the video / system requirements are the same as your
system. Reinstalling the OS is always the last result. It would have
to be a real fatal system situation before I ever would reinstall. I
normally have never reinstalled a OS and I keep systems for years.
Make sure that you use add remove programs when you unsintall the app
to make sure the registry entries are completely removed before you
reinstall the app again if you don't the reinstall will mess up.

Are you logged on under an administrative account?

I have had some programs that act the way yo describe because whoever
programed them was too lazy to either do it properly, (i.e. have their
program work under a multi-user system), or provide a basic error message.
