I'm running XP Pro on an IBM Thinkpad T30 with Linsys wireless netork - cable
modem. I have access to the internet wirelessly and when hardwired. I have
3 apps that cannot 'see' interent connection, iTunes, Turbo Tax and AVG Auto
Updates. I get 'internet connection failed, check settings' errors from all
three. But, laptop is clearly connected. They are all listed as exceptions
for the firewall... I cannot figure out what else to check.. anyone know
what might be the issue?
Thank you so much
Gretchen

Try manually allowing the applications. AVG for instance requires that
three executables be permitted.

Understanding Windows Firewall -

Some programs don't work after SP2 - the firewall is to blame and can be
manually configured -

Manually Configuring Windows Firewall in Windows XP Service Pack 2 -

Thank you for the suggestions - I will definitely use those links to read up.

I have completely turned the firewall off and am still had same problems??
Would that happen? I have disabled all checkpoints on the Microsoft Anti
spyware - basically, I have opened up my whole system and get the same
errors. Is it possible there is some XP setting unrelated to the firewall
that could be preventing this? Or, some incampatibility with XP SP2 and IBM
hardware? I did get one suggestion to not allow Windows to configure my
wireless network but since I get the same error when it is directly connected
to the modem, I didn't think that could be the issue.. please let me know if
you think manually configuring would still fix.
Thanks much

You might want to check if there are tech support docs about this issue
at Intuit's and Apple's website.
