Suddenly, SoundMax does not respond with
the display of its control window when launched.
I do not suspect an out of date driver, as there
doesn't seem to be any problem with the sound
playing through the on-board audio. SoundMax
is bundled with the Intel motherboard setup disc
and I've not changed anything since it was installed
several years ago. All the volume controls work
fine, it's just the main control window that will not
come up. I get an hour-glass for a few seconds,
then nothing.

Any ideas about what might be causing this issue?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

I have Soundmax too and never had any troubles with it. :-/
If I were in your situation, I would uninstall soundmax completely, and
then reinstall. Try something like this:
- uninstall the software: control panel->add/remove software->soundmax
- Go to control panel -> system -> hardware tab-> device manager: Under
sound/video and game controllers you'll (maybe) still see soundmax. If
so, remove it there too.
- Reboot: dive straight into bios, and make sure you have checked the
onboard sounddevices. Save bios settings if needed (if you made a change).
- On next reboot, windows will maybe recognize soundmax, but don't let
windows install drivers. It is probably best to do that yourself using
the motherboard CD (or check their website for the latest greatest).

But since I never had to do that myself, I am unsure if it will remedy
your problem.

Regards,
Erwin Moller

Un-install, reboot, check Device Manager, reboot
and then re-install

I went through the exact scenario you offered,
but the SoundMax Control Panel still does not
come up. I do get an hour-glass for about 3 or
4 seconds, then nothing.

There was a BIOS update applied 5 or 6 weeks
ago to better support a pair of 500GB hard-drives,
perhaps some setting was toggled. What's the BIOS
entry trigger for the Intel splash screen? F2?

I got it. The trick seemed to be that I couldn't
let the "Found New Hardware Wizard" attend
to the re-install. Rather, I had to cancel the wizard
and use the Intel CD selection interface to select
SoundMAX to install.

I don't recall having to double-click the output
device pane to get a dialog box where I could
select a different device. Maybe Erwin can check
his SoundMAX Control Panel to see if he also
has to double-click the current device to get a
drop-down list?

I have no idea how things got messed up, but
I'm happy to have this resolved.

Thanks,
Bill
(PS) The BIOS setup is accessed with F2 and
the on-board audio was in fact "Enabled".

Glad you solved it, by the way since all BIOS(s)
are a little different it usually is an F key or Del key.
