I just installed “Windows Messenger 5.1” I have two other people that I would
like to share applications with (my desktop) over the Internet. The people I
would like to share with have some combination of “Windows messenger”,
“Windows Live Messenger”, “Microsoft Office Live Meeting” installed on their
machines. What needs to be installed or uninstalled for us to be able to do
three-way application sharing?

None of the Microsoft "X" Messenger similar products support more than 2
way application sharing afaik.

I think your choices are limited to NetMeeting,ascreen sharing service
(like Webex, LiveMeeting), VNC possibly or Remote Desktop.

I tried to get Netmeeting to work, because the is what I am used to using at
work on our Intranet.

How do I get Netmeeting to work on the Internet?

I am not totally sure what you are asking -- are you having some particular
problem? It should work the same way on the Internet as on your Intranet.
How do you use in on the Intranet?

Our intranet has a server that we connect to.

I have tried a couple free ILS on the internet (ils.kencomp.net,
ils.seconix.com)

We can see each other in the directory, but when trying to call each other
the connection times out with Waiting for response from ...
followed by
The person you called is not able to accept NetMeeting calls.

Most users these days to not use ILS servers -- they make direct to IP
calls using the target's IP address as the calling address.

You can use an ILS server (which is basically just a repository of user's
IP addresses) but if the other party is behind a firewall or NAT router an
ILS will not work (as the IP recorded for a user is the private,
unreachable IP address of the user).

If a call is to be made to a user behind a firewall or NAT router the
device must be configured to forward incoming calls to the user and the
caller must call using the public IP address of the router (you can just
forward tcp 1503 for data only calls or have the user configured as the dmz
computer).

That is why Messenger is often more convenient -- it has mechanisms for
reaching users behind NATs. The sharing services circumvent this problem by
having all users make outgoing connections to the service provides server.

Still need to forward one port on the server end, but even I can handle that.
