WinXP
Connecting an external device such as a USB camera or 1394 video device
causes the appearence of a small pop up window that proposes a few suitable
applications to run with the device.

My difficulty is that the pop up window of 'actions' does not contain the
application I want to run, though it does contain a few unsuitable entries.

I have tried: Control Panel>scanners and cameras>properties>events>
'Actions'.
The list of aplications is there, but unfortuntely cannot be edited.

How may I edit the 'actions' list of applications displayed?

Thanks for your help.

I don't seem to be getting any Help or Support on my Windows XP question.
I wonder why?

Perhaps somebody can say what it is about this aspect of Win XP that makes
the question too difficult to answer.

A response appreciated.

Perhaps this will help:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/addautoplay.htm

To remove some:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/autoplayhandlers.htm

Thanks for that.
It appears the key word to describe this issue is: Autoplay.

Incidently, the link on your first page above referencing a microsoft
article 'Preparing Harware and Software for Use with Autoplay' (a very long
URL) produces a 'not found'.

However, I think it was supposed to link to:
'Preparing Hardware and Software for Use with Autoplay:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc144208(VS.85).aspx

A more interesting overview is on the adjacent page:
'Using and Configuring Autoplay':
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc144212(VS.85).aspx

From these I conclude that editing the Autoplay 'events' box is quite
involved, and probably best avoided by those of nervous disposition.
