I've been getting this message every now and then and it won't stop coming up
until i restart my computer.

"The application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000142). Click ok to
terminate the application."

Clicking ok closes the error, but I get the same error with any program.
Task Manager fails to open on CTRL+ALT+DEL and a couple programs in the
system tray wont open (uTorrent always fails to open from the system tray
when thios happens).

The only way to get my computer back to normal is to restart it, but the
shutdown process takes about 20 minutes to complete. Usual shutdown time is
less than 2 minutes.

I'm running windows xp pro on an amd a64x2 3800+ 1.5g ram.

This only seems to happen about every 2-3 days regardless of when my last
restart was. Sometimes happens more often than 3 day, somethimes less. has
been doing it for about a month.

Any help is welcome. I''ve tried google, but everything I found was either
about w2k or mysql server, neither of which apply to me.

1. Look in Event Viewer for clues:
Start>Run>eventvwr.msc [enter]

2. Be sure the computer is clean:

3. If the computer is truly virus/malware-free, test the hardware:

4. If the hardware is good, something you have installed - a driver or a
program - is causing the issue. Do clean-boot troubleshooting to determine
what that is and correct from there.
