What is the "Application Event Log"?

I installed an ASP.NET application on my web server, but it doesn't
work. When I browse to a page, I get an error message. The message
doesn't say much, but it does tell me:

An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure
can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please
review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

How do I review the "application event log"? Is it a file on my server
somewhere? If so, where?

Use Start Menu->Run and then enter eventvwr.msc. That will display the Event
Viewer. Click "Application", and you'll see the Application Event Log.
