Application error messages in XP

Being running a new application for about a month and now
I've encountered the following message only when I try to
open up a file created in that application. It seems to
happen quite a bit in other MS applications as well.

DWIDP MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
