How can you make Windows XP look different than the standard three colour
schemes; viz. blue, grey and olive. I want it in black. Is there any by Microsoft
made skin that you can apply, something that doesn't slow down the system!

Take a look at these two themes.

Microsoft Zune Theme for WinXP 1.0
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop...ne-Theme.shtml

Royale Noir Theme for WinXP
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop...ir-Theme.shtml

You'll have to be the judge on whether they slow down your system. I've been
using the Zune theme for some time now and have no complaints.

Good luck

If the intent is just to change the colors, you have the option within the
system. Right click on the desktop and click perperties, or click "display"
from control panel. From the Display properties window, you can change the
themes. There are a few builtin themes. As Nepatsfan said, you can add some
third party themes as well. You can setup individual colors for each item of
the window through "Appearence" tab. You can specify color schemes and fonts.
You can also change more settings through "advance" or "effects" button on
the "appearence' tab.

Will downloading the Royale Noir theme from Softpedia give my computer a virus?

After downloading, but before installing, scan the package with your
malware scanner. (Update the malware signatures first.)
