I have made some changes under diplay settings but XP does not remember a
couple of Effect settings. I've checked the two checkboxes for Transition
effects for menus and Clear Type to smooth edges for fonts (via
Appearance>Effects) but each time I log off or restart the machine these
checkboxes come back unchecked!

On my other computer there is not problem with these settings.

Is there something else I need to do to make Windows remember these
settings?

Al

Sometimes this type of issue is a Profile specific issue. If you have
another user account does Appearance changes made in that
account "Stick" ?

Retaining user settings & preferences can be a tough issue to fix.
Simple things like that sometimes are the result of Registry issues.
Have you ever run an "Automated" Registry cleaner on this PC ?
