APPCRASH when closing Outlook 2007

Most of the time when I close Outlook, I get a MS information box saying
"Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working" and offering to check for a
solution, etc. The problem details listed include:

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: OUTLOOK.EXE
..
..
Fault Module Name: GoogleDesktopOffice.dll_unloaded
..
..

I don't understand why I'm getting this message to begin with because
Outlook didn't close abnormally - I closed it on purpose. This is the case
every time I get this message.

If I click on the "Check online for a solution and restart the program"
selection, MS comes back with some explanation about a trial period for
running the beta or pre-release version of Outlook 2007 having expired and
suggesting I upgrade to the latest retail version.....

I do have the latest retail version; this is a brand new Dell notebook on
which I purchased MS Office Small Business Edition. It registered itself the
first time I started it, so I'm sure that's not the problem.

Does anyone have any insight into why this would be happening, and is it
anything to be concerned about or simply an annoyance?

Thanks,
JoanB

<snip>

And what happens when you uninstall the Google Desktop program?
Apparently it installed an add-on into Outlook that Outlook doesn't
like for whatever version Outlook you are using.

I haven't tried uninstalling the Google Desktop program. If I do that, what
functionality will I lose? I didn't install it to begin with; it must have
come installed from Dell.

I don't know, never installed it, and consider it garbage. You will
lose whatever functionality the program provides. It is up to you to
investigate what the program gives you (whether you want it or not).
It does not include its own help? Read it, then go read the stuff at
http://desktop.google.com/support/. If you haven't a clue what it
does and have never used it, there is no point in wasting the disk
space on it.

Googling on '+dell +"google desktop"' shows Dell is losing more brain
cells as they try to up their software tally on preloaded, prebuilt
computers by including more crapware. Considering the privacy
concerns of many regarding Google Desktop, it is surprising and stupid
that Dell includes it in their standard image.

Did you try to start Outlook in its safe mode ("outlook.exe /safe")
which will NOT load any of its plug-ins?
