I'm installing WinXP pro on my laptop. After the install,
my standby button won't put the computer into standby and
I have no battery power icon in my task tray. For some
reason APM isn't loaded properly,and in device manager if
I expand the computer tree, it says standard pc, I think
it should be mobile. WHat is going on? Is it maybe that
I'm hitting F7 during install?

You need to contact the maker/supplier of your notebook to see if there are
any updated power management drivers for XP

you should download the drivers of your notebook and then
install them. Before installing the drivers properly your
notebook will not work correctly.

You can get the drivers from the webpage of your notebook
brand.

if it is HP try www.hp.com
IBM try www.ibm.com etc..

I solved it. I did contact HP but you know what you get
from them, the usual crap..."Reinstal from your Restore
CD".Well, my restore cd has home edition on it plus a
million things I don't need including AOL links.AOL???
People still use that crap? Anyhow, the problem was that
the genius that I am, I was hitting F7 during the install
process which disables Power Management. Now everything
works fine. Thanks guys.
